4\/5 stars <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the 1950s in Mexico and Noemi receives a letter from her newlywed cousin, Catalina, that describes dangerous and supernatural happenings at her new home, High Place. Noemi is sent to help and retrieve her cousin, but she soon realizes that the task may not be very easy. As she spends more time there, she sees just how menacing High Place can be and must find allyship with the family\u2019s youngest son. Still working mostly alone, Noemi struggles to fight the power High Place has over her and uncovers dark secrets she never imagined.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After reading Gods of Jade and Shadow <\/em>and loving it, I was so excited to read Mexican Gothic<\/em>. It did not disappoint and was a perfect read to open up spooky season\/October with. Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a talented author that draws me into her books with the vivid descriptions and eerie storylines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The beginning of the book hooked me as I tried to figure out what was happening at High Place, but it wasn\u2019t until the second half, that I really couldn\u2019t put it down. Noemi\u2019s visions in the house were scary and disturbing. The Doyle family that lived in the house were menacing and added to the allure of a haunted house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the pacing of the book was very good and I didn\u2019t feel like I was missing any detail or had too much. Noemi\u2019s journey as she delved deeper into the house and family\u2019s secrets moved steadily. While it wasn\u2019t keeping me up at night with nightmares, it was a great psychological thriller that had you questioning if Noemi was a reliable narrator and if she would ever escape High Place. I definitely recommend if you are looking for an eerie and supernatural read.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
