Mina hasn\u2019t been in contact and when Margot finally reaches her childhood home, she discovers her mother dead. To try and figure out what happened, Margot begins a journey into her mother\u2019s past and learns things about both of them along the way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wanted to love this. I always have really high hopes for books that offer representation. While this was an intriguing read and I enjoyed the mystery, I had a really hard time relating to Margot. Mina\u2019s story captivated me the most and I almost wish it was only told from her timeline.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lillyfei.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Template-for-WP-1-2.png?resize=392%2C587&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5442\" width=\"392\" height=\"587\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lillyfei.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Template-for-WP-1-2.png?resize=683%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 683w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lillyfei.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Template-for-WP-1-2.png?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lillyfei.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Template-for-WP-1-2.png?resize=768%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lillyfei.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Template-for-WP-1-2.png?w=1000&amp;ssl=1 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Because I learned a lot about Mina through her daughter\u2019s perspective, the story just didn\u2019t work for me. If I had liked Margot better, I think it would have been a hit. I do feel for Margot as she navigates America as the daughter of an undocumented immigrant, her perspective wasn\u2019t compelling enough for me to really connect.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, this is still a solid debut novel.
