MY ADOPTION STORY Pt. 78 | TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS | DO I CUT THEM OFF?

When a transracial adoptee begins to open up about their adoption trauma and struggles with racism, it can be jarring to their friends and family. In an ideal situation, an adoptee’s loved ones will be open to new perspectives and willing to learn to create a safe and supportive environment. Unfortunately, a common scenario is people refusing to listen and invalidating someone’s experience because it doesn’t fit their fairytale narrative. I share about if I think you should just cut out unsupportive people and if I have done it.

My videos are filmed and scheduled to publish weeks in advance. While I had the energy to discuss these topics then, I may be in a different place now. I don’t want any adoptee to feel like I am ignoring their connections. I just have to take care of myself as well.
