The Two Lila Bennetts
3.5/5 stars
I was a little confused when I started the book, and I’m still confused once I finished it. This story features an unlikable main character, Lila, who now has to face consequences for her past choices in parallel universes. In one universe she is captured and forced to examine what she’s done, in another she’s free and examines her choices alone. In the captured story, I predicted who her captor was, but not how they fit into the bigger story.
When, I reached the end I realized the authors (yes, two authors) meant for it to be open to interpretation. This was the first book of theirs I read and was not familiar with their style at all. As a result, I’m questioning what was real or if everything was real. I had expected one overarching story that somehow concludes both universes. I now see that the parallel universes really aren’t connected other than that they both force Lila to redeem herself, whether she wants to or not.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was intriguing and the plots kept me turning the pages. I was unsure how two authors and parallel universes would work, but now that I’ve read this one, I am definitely interested in their other books.
