The Chestnut Man

This book immediately hooked me, but it took me a long time to read. A serial killer is terrorizing Copenhagen. They leave a chestnut man at the scenes of the crimes. What’s special about these little figurines? The fingerprints of a girl who was kidnapped and murdered a year ago are on all of them… 

This novel features many characters and very short chapters. It makes reading seem to fly by, but it could also get confusing. With over 500 pages there were moments that felt slow, but the second half definitely picked up speed. It instantly became a page turner I couldn’t put down. This definitely delivers gore, so if you’re squeamish, this may not be the one for you. 

While the twists truly shocked me and the pace quickened, I was left. a little disappointed. I owe this almost entirely to the short chapters and quick changes of perspectives. The layout of the novel made it easy to put down and pick back up, but I felt like I couldn’t give it all the attention it needed because there was a good stopping point every two pages. Get through the first ~40% and this will become a thriller you love.
