Class Mom
4/5 stars
Jen Dixon — an atypical mom and wacky class mom. After raising her two daughters, she’s now considered an expert of kindergarten and naturally, the perfect choice to be class mom for her son’s kindergarten class. She stirs thins up with her unique emails and quirky personality all while dealing with every type of school parent.
‘Hilarious’ is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Class Mom. I did have to get used to the style at first. As an Asian woman, there was a moment I found borderline offensive, but I was really glad to see it addressed later on in the story. The book is filled with emails from Jen to parents of the class, and they were easily the funniest parts. They gave a true sense of Jen’s personality and her no-nonsense attitude.
The characters were over-the-top in a great way and the story even added a bit of mystery that kept me very intrigued. Overall, this was a very funny story and super quick read. It may take you some time to appreciate the snarky style of Jen Dixon, but once you do you’ll be laughing the whole time.
