A Nearly Normal Family
4/5 stars
The Sandell family seem perfectly normal. Stella is a typical teenager eager for exploration and independence. Stella’s mother is a hardworking lawyer. Stella’s father is a well-known pastor. Their lives get turned around when Stella is arrested for the murder of a 32-year-old man. The Sandel family soon learns just how far they’ll go to protect themselves and the people they love.
This was a thrilling story told in three parts. Each part was from the perspective of a different family member. You learn bits of the full story with each perspective and are kept turning the pages when you realize you’ll need another character to gain specific answers.
I was left guessing the entire time… until the very last word, to be exact. I appreciated the story jumping back and forth in the timeline so I could gain the character development that explained certain actions. I also appreciated the short chapters. It kept the story fast-paced and intriguing. Overall, a great legal thriller!
