MY ADOPTION STORY Pt. 63.2 University advice for freshmen/transracial adoptees
Heading off to university can be terrifying. What was shocking to me discovering I am a person of color in college. Even though I was born in China and I am Asian, I was raised by a white family. I didn’t live in a very diverse area and I was always with my family so any racism and microaggressions were handled by my parents. As a transracial adoptee, I wasn’t always aware and proud that I am Asian. That all changed when I headed to university.
In this video, I give some advice and share some experiences from my freshman year. If you aren adoptee heading off to college, be aware that you may discover a lot more about yourself than you initially thought!h
My videos are filmed and scheduled to publish weeks in advance. While I had the energy to discuss these topics then, I may be in a different place now. I don’t want any adoptee to feel like I am ignoring their connections. I just have to take care of myself as well.
