MY ADOPTION STORY PT. 74 | OWNING MY IDENTITY AS A TRA

When someone is struggling with their self-worth and finding their place in the world, they are often met with the response, “Just own who you are.” This can be a challenge to everyone, but especially to adoptees who had their identities taken and replaced with another. Transracial adoption adds another layer because I not only had my identity taken, but I was not raised as a Chinese person. Despite my upbringing, the world still sees me as an Asian woman before anything else. Owning who you are can be empowering if you have support and representation. Without it, it can be confusing and unhelpful. Hear about my experience with owning who I am in this video.

My videos are filmed and scheduled to publish weeks in advance. While I had the energy to discuss these topics then, I may be in a different place now. I don’t want any adoptee to feel like I am ignoring their connections. I just have to take care of myself as well.
