Somewhere Only We Know | A Fun Romance Featuring KPop
4/5 stars
Lucky is a k-pop star on the brink of making it big internationally. Jack is interning in the finance industry while secretly moonlighting as a photographer for a tabloid. When Lucky’s and Jack’s paths unexpectedly converge, they spend a whirlwind of a weekend together learning not only about each other, but themselves too.
This was a feel-good young adult romance that felt like I was experiencing a Kdrama. It switched between Lucky’s and Jack’s points of view as they travelled around Hong Kong together. Sometimes, the POV switches felt like a bit too much, but once I really got into the story and the plot picked up, it made more sense.
I appreciated the little glimpses into Asian, and more specifically Korean, culture. I always appreciate books that offer representation, but I could relate a lot to know feeling Asian/Korean/etc. enough. The romance aspect was pretty solid. I had to keep reminding myself the majority of the story takes place within 48 hours. The character development was strong. I loved watching these two characters discover themselves and figure out what was worth fighting for.
I finished the book in two sittings because it was cute and funny. This was the first book of Maurene Goo that I have read and it definitely won’t be the last!
