Layla | Colleen Hoover’s Latest Paranormal Thriller
4/5 stars
After a tragic incident, Leeds isn’t sure his girlfriend, Layla, will ever be the same. To help her heal and take a break, he brings her to the bed and breakfast where they first fell in love. There, he meets a fellow guest, Willow. It is not long before Leeds realizes Willow is not like a typical B&B guest and he is forced to make life-altering decisions for all three of them.
I am a lover of all Colleen Hoover books. It seems that no matter what she writes, she captivates me and I have to finish reading as fast as possible. I had no clue what to expect going into this, but I knew it was a bit of a paranormal thriller and a bit of a romance. Overall, this was a solid page-turner for me. I was very invested and I was not predicting the plot twists at all.
The entire story did make me feel a bit uncomfortable for reasons mentioned repeatedly by the main character, Leeds, but with a paranormal thriller I was expecting to be weirded out a lot. Once a solution to everything began to take form, my discomfort was eased.
I love that Colleen Hoover has once again written something completely different from a contemporary romance. As far as thrillers go, I think I still prefer Verity, but Layla was still an incredibly unique story that I couldn’t put down. Up next for me is November 9.
