Survive the Night | Possibly My New Favorite Sager Thriller
4.5/5 stars
Charlie knows nothing about Josh, the man in the driver’s seat. They met via a campus rideshare board. Charlie is getting away from campus after her best friend was murdered by the campus killer. Josh is leaving to aid his sick father…supposedly. As they continue on their journey, Charlie grows more suspicious of Josh. She must be careful because she’s stuck on the road with him and there is no way out. Can she survive the night?
A one-sitting read for me. RIley Sager very rarely misses with me. Lock Every Door now has some competition for my favorite Sager book.
This was full of suspense. I loved how Charlie was an unreliable narrator and appreciated seeing her grow more confident in the course of a single night. I actually did predict one of the twists, but as usual, Sager threw in plenty of twists and turns that had me doubting my predictions. I could never really be certain who was dangerous and who wasn’t.
Yes, this story was unrealistic and outlandish, but I found it incredibly entertaining. I never really expect a “realistic” thriller from Sager. I literally did not put this book down from start to finish. Survive the Night was a fantastic thriller that continues to solidify Sager as one of my favorite writers.
