His and Hers
4/5 stars
A woman is murdured in Blackdown and Anna Andrews is first on the scene to report it to the world. Detective Jack Harper wonders how Anna knows so much about the murder but things take a turn when he becomes a suspect too. The two race against the clock to figure out what is going on in Blackdown and hope their pasts don’t catch up to them.
His and Hers is another example of Feeney’s solid work as a thriller writer. While not thrilling for the entirety of the novel, the air of suspense was there and I read it in two sittings so I could figure out what happened. This was full of twists. I predicted one, but after that, everything was a surprise.
There was some violence but not too much. Readers, be aware there are instances of SA and rape. Unlike her previous book I read, it didn’t seem unnecessary and gratuitous. The violence against our characters was integral to the story and character development. The book alternated between character perspectives and would jump back in time to show Anna’s high school years. This combination kept me confused and had me falling for red herrings.
The resolution was thrilling and left the right amount of ambiguity. I had to turn back some pages to make sure I didn’t miss anything because there were twists up until the end that I did not predict. Overall, another good thriller from Feeney and a reminder to continue reading her work when I’m in for suspense.
