Daisy Darker
4/5 stars
Daisy Darker was born with a broken heart and her family hasn’t let her live life properly since. When her Nana invites everyone to Seaglass for her 80th birthday, the disfunctional family obliges. When the tide rises, they are cut off from the world for 8 hours. This is normally a welcome escape from the world but this time, Nana is found dead at the stroke of midnight. As each hour passes, another family member is found dead. Who is the murderer in the house and can they even trust each other to stay safe?
Daisy Darker is my latest read by Feeney and she proves yet again why I immediately go for her books. This was the perfect book to welcome spooky season with. My heart was racing and it definitely brought the suspense for some late-night reading. A nod to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, this book delivered the same creepy atmosphere as members of the Dark family continue to be murdered.
I was pleased with the plot and resolution. It does require one to use their imagination, but it was so well done that I immediately wanted to re-read the book to figure out what I had missed. There was still an unanswered question or two that I had, but it didn’t ruin the book for me.
Overall, I could not think of a better book to really kick off spooky season. It’s perfect for curling up with a cup of tea at night and brings just the right amount of suspense and scare.
