The Paris Apartment
3/5 stars
Jess escapes to her half-brother, Ben’s Paris apartment for a change in pace. Except when she arrives, she discovers that he’s missing and none of his neighbors seem to know what’s happened. As she begins to dig into his disappearance, she risks uncovering dangerous secrets of the building that might get her into trouble.
I saw The Paris Apartment raved about on social media. This was definitely heart-racing, but I predicted the twists and thought it was a bit over-hyped. It started as a slow-burn mystery and the chapters alternated between points of view. I became more intrigued as I learned more, but that also meant the ending wasn’t too surprising for me.
I tried sympathizing with any character other than Jess and had a hard time doing it. I think my disconnect with the characters hindered me from getting very invested in the story. This wasn’t a bad mystery/thriller. It did keep my interest and I consider it a quick read. Had I not been in the mood for a thriller during spooky season, I’m not sure this would have worked for me. Overall it was a solid 3-star read for me, but I was expecting more from how much I saw about this book.
