Day 1 of Camp NaNoWriMo July 2020
The day has arrived! I can now add my word count updates to my NaNoWriMo site and the race to reaching my word count goal is on!
When I first signed up, I had decided to only work on one project. As you may know from my previous blog posts on writing, I have two works in projects — both about transracial adoptees. As I spent the last few days prepping and writing, I realized that I can continue working on both projects throughout Camp.
So, here are my goals:
- Project HQ is my Young Adult Fiction featuring a Chinese, transracial adoptee protagonist. I have 40,000 words in my draft. My goal is to write another 30,000 to complete my draft.
- Project NB is a contemporary romance, again, featuring a Chinese, transracial adoptee protagonist. My zero draft was started at the time of my breakup. I read it and now have a completely different perspective and direction I want to go with it. I am re-writing this draft and want to get 5,000 written in a brand new draft.
Note: While both novels feature transracial adoptee protagonists, they are not about adoption. Instead, I hope to write about stories that includes glimpses into how being adoptee adds a layer of trauma and resilience into one’s life.
I am a bit anxious about this month. While I am very motivated right now, I know that there is going to be that slump in a week or two where I question why I even signed up for it.
I’ll be updated regularly not only to bring you along on this, but to document this experience for my own records. Until the next update,
Happy Writing!
