Ugly Love | Not My Favorite From CoHo

2.5/5 stars

It is definitely not love at first sight for Tate and Miles. They embark on a no-strings-attached arrangement once they’ve established there’s a mutual attraction between them. They think it’ll be easy until their feelings get in the way. Suddenly, a lot more is at stake and love might get ugly.

I will say this was a page-turner, but I’m a bit tired of the trope where the emotionally-available woman saves the traumatized man and convinces him he is capable of love. Ugly Love alternated between past and present showing us glimpses of Tate and Miles’ relationship and the relationship Miles had when he was just 18. I kept forgetting how young these characters because they were dealing with such “adult” traumas.

The book was definitely emotional and took you on a roller-coaster. Again, I was getting frustrated with Tate and she grew obviously more in love with MIles and he did not reciprocate. Miles’ backstory was intriguing, and I was more invested in that than I was in his relationship with Tate.

The ending/epilogue wrapped up very quickly and was much faster paced than the rest of the book. I needed more character/plot development to be fully satisfied with the resolution.

This was a quick read for me and it did keep me entertained, but it felt it was just alternating scenes between Miles’ traumatic past and his steamy relationship with Tate. Not my favorite Colleen Hoover read.
