Anna K Away | A Giant Story with Not Enough Pages

3/5 stars

Anna K is brought to South Korea to reconnect with her family and heritage. Following the death of Alexia Vronsky, time away would be good. Meanwhile, her brother is falling more in love with his girlfriend, Lolly. Kimmie and Dustin are considering taking their relationship to the next level. Bea is grappling with Anna’s role in Alexia’s death. Anna K is the next chapter in this Anna Karenina reimagining and follows our beloved characters as they experience more love and heartbreak.

This was entertaining and a good book for summer, but not my favorite. While I appreciate the Asian representation, I was disappointed by the story’s development. Ultimately, there was way too much going on. We followed every character from Book 1 and each had their own personalities and plots to develop. I wish I had re-read the first book so I could remember more clearly what had happened.

I was most interested in Anna’s story and her travels around Korea with a Kpop Idol, but that storyline dropped off pretty early. Side characters I was growing to love all but vanished as the story progressed. This could have been a solid sequel to Anna K, but it would need to be pared down and focus on one or two stories instead of everyone.
