I Know You Know

2/5 stars

Cody Swift is a true-crime podcaster, but he’s not like the others out there. He’s investigating the murders of his two childhood friends. The murders that he narrowly avoided. A man has already been convicted of the crime, but Cody wants to dig deeper and unveil any remaining secrets not yet uncovered.

I was drawn in by the true-crime podcast plot of this story. I thought this gave a unique way of telling the story and gave one of the main characters some extra depth and investment into the crimes. The transcripts of episodes that served as some chapters were interesting to read and gave context for time and pacing. Unfortunately, the pacing was slow for me and I had a hard time staying interested.

I Know You Know could have been a really thrilling novel, but it was a slow-burn mystery for me. The alternating timelines and narration styles kept things interesting but also didn’t let me get as immersed into the story as I would have liked. I always felt removed from everything happening.

The resolution was also slow. I was hoping for some big twists that would make up for the slow-burn of the rest of the book, but they never really came. I hadn’t predicted the ending but didn’t feel too emotional about it either. This had so much potential of being a really unique thriller, but unfortunately it fell short for me.
