The House in the Cerulean Sea
5/5 stars
Linus Baker has always done what was expected of him. As a caseworker at the Department in Charge of Magical Youth, he has learned to remain completely objective even in the the most surprising situations. When Extremely Upper Management sends him on a top secret mission, he finds himself on a distant island to observe an orphanage of very dangerous magical children.
I loved this book. I didn’t read the book jacket summary and only had a vague idea of what this book was about. It was the perfect ready for a cozy day. It was funny and heartwarming. I fell in love with all of the characters. Klune was able to capture unique personalities for all of the characters and had me attached to everyone.
It was paced nicely too. There was conflict and plot, but I cared more about the character and relationship developments. I liked seeing Linus interact with everyone on the island and didn’t want their story to end. As an adopted person, I was a bit wary of the orphanage aspect but was overall happy with everything.
I’m honestly surprised by comforting I found this story. It was the kind of book I never want to out down and it will definitely be a go-to re-read when I need something light and heartwarming.
