Before the Coffee Gets Cold
5/5 stars
A cafe in Tokyo has been serving coffee for over one hundred years. There may be a reason why it’s stayed in business so long. Legend says that if you sit in a particular seat, you can travel through time. There is one catch, you must return to the present before your coffee gets cold.
This was a perfectly charming book that pulled me out of my reading slump. It is a short novel (just ~270 pages) and the chapters are written as novellas. The characters make appearances in all of them, but each chapter is really a short story about one person’s journey.
I wasn’t sure why everyone was in love with this book, but I get it. It was a really heartwarming and cozy read. I finished it in one sitting because I wanted to see how each character made use of their time. I loved seeing how despite not being able to change the future, they still left their time traveling journey with a changed perspective.
This was the perfect read for a relaxing, cozy day. I even grabbed the other two books already because I loved it so much. This will definitely be one of those quick reads I need to pull me out of slumps. If you need a book that will touch your heart while you sip a warm cup of tea or coffee, pick this one up.
